Orhan Pamuk

Or as one demented soul where I work puts it, "My Name is Raad." (don't ask why). It's set in sixteenth century Istanbul in the world of of the sultan's miniaturists. The contents list in itself is beautiful with chapter names running "I am called Black," "I am a tree," "I, Shekure" "I am called Olive," "We two dervishes." It's slow reading, but if you like epics and epic, lyrical writing I think this book should be the next one you read. If I had one word to describe it, it would be "beautiful."
